How To Get Here

There’s no bridge from the mainland to Great Chebeague Island, so the options for getting to the golf club all involve a boat of one kind of another.

Most off-island golfers take the Chebeague Transportation Company ferry from Cousins Island to Chebeague’s Stone Wharf, which is about 200 yards from the golf clubhouse.  To catch the ferry, park at the transportation company’s parking lot on Route 1 in Cumberland.  The lot is about a quarter mile south of Exit 15 off I-295.  A bus leaves the lot promptly a half-hour before the ferry departs Cousins for Chebeague.  The ferry ride takes 15 minutes.  (See chebeaguetrans.com for more information, including the bus and ferry schedule and fees.)

Casco Bay Lines has several daily ferries to Chebeague from downtown Portland. These ferries land at Chandler’s Cove, at the southwest end of Chebeague, four miles from the golf course. There currently is no taxi service on Chebeague. See cascobaylines.com for ferry times and costs.

Water taxis are available to transport golfers from Portland and other nearby points on the mainland to Chebeague.

Private boats.   Small motorboats (17 feet and under) and dinghies may tie up on Chebeague’s Stone Wharf for an hourly fee ($5-7); larger boats may anchor or pick up one of the Chebeague Island Inn’s eight yellow moorings, available to the Inn’s lunch, dinner and overnight guests. Contact the harbor master at harbormaster@chebeague.net or the Chebeague Island Inn at chebeagueislandinn.com for more information.
